Lot # 7865-0256Fur seal hat; traditional Russian style cap. Bought at auction. Shows some wear along edges~22" inside diameter, short visor, flaps dyed black color outer edge of cap sheared, straighted fur inner edge of flap is curly underfur probably came from 30s or 40s. Inside a black cloth, gold stamp on inside dome as follows: "WARRANTED GENUINE, SEAL SKIN, REGISTERED". Fur seals have short stiff guard hairs and extra soft, orange underfur. The guard hairs are "plucked" out and then the underfur that remains in curly. It can be used this way, or electrolytically straighted. Sometimes it is used as orange color, especially the curly fur for teddy bears. The straight fur was traditionally dyed black and used for hats and coats $499.95 /eaCFR Quantity Available:
